A smile takes but a moment....

...but the memory of it lasts forever.

I hope I always remember these smiles.  In the photography business, I am asking people to smile all the time.  Sometimes (especially with my own kids) it's not easy to get that perfect smile at the camera.  There are Chase's latest "squinty eye" smiles, or Marissa's fake "mommy is making me do this" smiles along with many other less-than-perfect smiles and that's assuming they are both facing the right direction and still in the shot when I press the shutter.  That is one of the reasons I love capturing candid REAL smiles.  There's something amazing about capturing true happiness.  I recently had an amazing engagement shoot and there were a lot of beautiful photos that came out of it.  I posted a sneak peek on facebook and although there were several comments on all of the photos...the one that almost EVERYONE commented on was a kind of candid moment between shots where the bride and groom to be were getting ready to kiss for the camera and were giggling.  I also shot a gorgeous wedding ceremony and my personal favorite from that shoot was where the bride was glancing back to look at her friends and family and smiling.  Then there is the "shoot" I tried with my own children a couple of weeks ago.  I got several of the smiles I described above (fake or squinty).  I like a lot of them, but I don't think any of them touch my heart as much as these photos that were just taken while my kids were having a blast playing out in the yard at home today.

Had to include a few non-smiling shots in here too, just because I liked them.  Oh and a few of our dog because he doesn't get many photos ever since we had kids.  The leaves were my attempt at trying to look on the bright side after yesterday's post.  They aren't so bad when they are still stuck to the tree and have this beautiful blue sky and white puffy cloud as a background.  ;)
