Well, at least it tasted good.

Ok, you've seen those great cooking blogs with the beautiful step by step photos of the food right? Well, this isn't one of those. However, they are what inspired tonights post. I always thought it would be fun to do one and some day I would really like to put together a little cookbook with photos like this full of family favorite recipes. So I picked my mom's chili recipe to start with. Not the greatest idea because basically you throw a bunch of stuff in a pot and then let it cook. Not exactly complicated enough to require photographs of each step, but it's a start I guess. Here goes:

Ingredients:
3 lbs. ground beef
1 large onion
5 toes chopped garlic (or 2 1/2 tsp)
1 28 oz. can diced tomatoes
1 can dark red kidney beans
5 TBS chili powder
2 TBS oregano
1 TBS salt
2 TBS cumin
1 TBS crushed red pepper
1 1/2 cups of water

Brown ground beef in large pot and drain.

Finely chop onion and add to ground beef along with garlic. *Note to self- white onion on a white cutting board doesn't really work.

Add tomatoes with juice.

Add chili powder,

oregano,
IMG_8927
salt (you can see how confusing this part would be if it weren't for the helpful photos, right?)
IMG_8928
cumin (I was a little short today so I just dumped the rest of the container in)

and crushed red pepper.

Add water (again, I think this photo is extremely helpful)
Simmer for at least 2 hours stirring occasionally.

Add kidney beans right before serving and heat through.

Top with your favorite goodies (I like fritos and shredded cheese) and enjoy!
